How Happierleads identifies website visitors — and your privacy choices

You may have reached this page from a “Visitor identification by Happierleads” badge on a website's privacy policy. That website uses Happierleads, a UK-based company, to understand which businesses and people visit it. This page explains, in plain words, what that means and what you can do about it.

What Happierleads does

Happierleads is business-to-business (B2B) software. Companies add a small script to their website so they can see which companies, and where possible which people, have visited — for example, so a sales team can follow up with a business that showed interest in their product.

How identification works

1. When you load a page, the website's Happierleads script records the visit: the pages viewed, when, the referring page, and technical details such as your IP address, browser and device type.
2. We match those signals against our business contact database and data from third-party data providers to work out the company behind the visit and, where the data allows, the person.
3. The website owner then sees the visit in their Happierleads dashboard.

Identification is not always possible. Many visits stay anonymous or are matched only to a company.

What information is used

• From the visit: pages viewed, time on site, referrer, IP address, approximate location derived from the IP, browser and device details.
• Business profile data, when a match is found: company name and details, and for a person their name, job title, work email, phone number and LinkedIn profile.
• Information you give the website yourself, such as an email address typed into its own form, may be linked to your visit so the website owner knows it was you.

Sessions may be recorded on websites that switch on session recordings; those recordings are kept for 90 days.

How websites use it

Website owners use Happierleads to understand who is interested in their business and to follow up with relevant B2B outreach, for example a sales email or a LinkedIn message. Each website owner decides how it uses the information and is responsible for doing so lawfully.

Who controls what

• The website you visited controls its own website, its own forms and what it does with visitor information. Questions about that website's use are best sent to that website.
• Happierleads processes visit data on behalf of the website and maintains its business contact database.
• Third-party data providers hold their own copies of business data. An opt-out with us cannot remove information held by them, or information a website has already exported from Happierleads.

We keep visitor data for as long as the website's Happierleads account is active. You can ask us at any time to delete data we hold about you by emailing privacy@happierleads.com.
